On an average 1 million people die every year due to smoking in India. This figure has increased by 58-9 percent in the last 30 years. In countries where 6 lakh people died in 1990 due to smoking tobacco. that number has increased to 10 lakh in 2019. This information has been revealed in a study published in May 2021 in the international journal Lesset.On the other hand. if we talk about the consumption of tobacco in all forms, then according to the data released by the World Health Organization. tobacco is responsible for 13-5 lakh deaths every year in India. India is the second largest producer and consumer of tobacco in the world. According to the Global Adult Tobacco Survey India 2016-17, 29 per cent adults 267 million in the country consume tobacco. This includes products like Khaini Gutkha, Areca Tobacco, Zarda Beedi Cigarettes and Hookah.

Sre Ganga Seva Samiti has been running the tobacco prohibition program for the last 4 years- The organization has been holding many meetings on prohibition of tobacco by going to the gram sabhas and making people aware about the ill effects of tobacco through schools. For which various competitions are being organized so that people can know about the diseases caused by tobacco. The same organization selected such people who wanted to quit tobacco The organization is helping such people to quit tobacco by counseling and providing other support, so far 42 people have been freed from tobacco by the organization. The main aim of Sre Ganga Seva Samiti is to make the society tobacco free. For which he is constantly striving.

Statistics show that every year 70 Lakh people around the world and about 2739 people die every day in India due to cancer and other diseases due to tobacco and o their smoking products. Worldwide death toll due to smokeless tobacco increased 3 times in 7 years, most of its 70% patients are in India. Figures revealed in the research of NEW York University, most patients of diseases caused by the use of smokeless tobacco growing in India According to the research report,the number of deaths due to this increased to 3 Lakh 50 thousand in 7 years-The number of deaths due to use of smokeless tobacco has increased rapidly in the world. The death toll has tripled in the last 7 years- The number of deaths has gone up to 3 lakh 50 thousand. These figures have come out in the research of York University. According to research, 70 percent of the patients of diseases caused by the use of smokeless tobacco are in India.
